all season? i bet the best option is to go 215/45R17...way more choice than 205/50...but have to double check the overall diameter, may have to go 225/45 to keep it close...

stock rim is 17x7? or narrower?

Also take a look at http://www.1010tires.com  They have user review and ratings.

Don't be cheap on tires, they are the only things touching the road.

I was checking Tire Trends just now, and for the stock dimensions, the Falken ZE-912 and Kumho Escta ASX are both available for around $150/tire.

I'm running on some Falken ZE-512 (an older model), s ...

Falken looks really good and cheap too. but, what is the thread life of these tires? compare to Michelin®Pilot® Exalto® A/S($205.99 at costco), which one will u choose?
作者: 字典仔    時間: 2007-12-22 02:37

well i just dun like how slippery falken's are on wet, especially when it's cold (like snow); that's why i am bias to kumho ASX...

yet Kumho AST is very ****ty, wouldn't recommand it at all...

i would recommand RE960 if budget is allowed, got them for many friend's cars and everyone is happy; ASX is cheap, but i think my next set will be RE960, really can't be cheap on tires even tho it's just a family wagon!

i wouldn't suggest Michelin cuz it's quite a bit more, and i dun think it's worth the diff...

i also love Dunlop SP5000, but it's getting old for that model; i dun like Pzero Nero as the sidewall is pretty weak @_@

唔知有冇人用過toyo versado﹖或者toyo tpt?
作者: 字典仔    時間: 2007-12-22 08:36

tried TPT, traditional all season...i recalled it wasn't that good on snow and kinda bad on wet...

overall i wouldn't recommand that tire again

*very similiar to the FZ4 or sth lolz*

not sure about the versado, haven't tried yet

As I was talking to 字典仔 earlier, I really need to replace my tires too. My low thread PS PS2's are dying in this weather :S Which one did you say I should get again? I should switch from 255/40/18 to 245/40/18? or even lower?

And should I get PS sport a/s from the states..?

Lik Gor, by just telling how many years it's not that accurate bor...it depends on the road u drive (city stop and go wears out the tires faster), the car u drive (maybe jetta is heavy enough for ZE512?), and the annual mileage? not to mention where u live will make a big diff...

i live in bby, around metro; lots of uphill and downhill, feedbacks are from winding roads over winter time; even from friends who lives in coquitlam / north van with lots of highway high speed driving, how often will u hydroplane at the speed of 50 to 80, compares to 100 to 150?

or maybe i should say i drive too fast most of the time, so i can experience the diff in tires; u might think u drive slow but at the emergency moment, it will be the factor for less damage (if any)...

as far as i know, all falken tires starts to get noisy after 7000 to 10000km (depends on how u drive), and will get slippery on wet / snow...

if u first got those tires at winter time, when it's brand new; of course it would be reasonable for the first year lolz...

sko: it was BS RE960, just go for 245/40R18, u are only running 18 x 8.5; tire won't be so fatty making the wheels look like sticking out in the "front" (i think?!)

Lik Gor: she has no more factory wheels for snow tires, i have told her not to sell it

and her tires should be pretty bad by now, about 50 to 60% last winter...

lol~ silly lik gor, i mentioned "low thread" ps ps2~

and yes, i was so shocked this morning, the road was all covered in slush.

darn it, i miss my oem ones now.
actually, i'm still thinking if I switch rims. i want to either go back to oem setup and save $$$, or switch to black on black.

okok, i'll go for 245 instead~
作者: chobit    時間: 2007-12-22 14:29

I love the slush!  It is no where like ice/snow, and I was able to push very hard w/o a sign of slide on my Dunlop M3 snow tires.  which I highly recommended.

sko: i dun think black on black would look nice, the setup u have now looks great, except the front are a little bit wide...

lik gor: so did u first replaced it when winter comes? typical 13 to 15k a year, so if u replaced them in "late" 04, when u first got it of course okay la...but after over 40k, i would estimate u probably have less than 50%, should make sure if they are still okay for this winter (even tho u might still feel okay)...

i never like RSA, i agree it to be one of the worst tires, but most cars come with it, what can you say? just like a lot of cars comes with RE92 and XGT V4...stupidest tires a manufacturer would have ever chosen for their cars, but that's life...

just like my Kumho ASX, bought them sept 04, had about 30k on them; they are less than 50% already (i drive too hard)

Another vote for 912, no problem at all.  Great in the rain.  Sidewall still a little soft.  It was decent on snow, but I only had 30 mins of driving in snow, then I swap into snows.  Quiet, cheap ($116 for 4) and made in Japan.
作者: pkphilip    時間: 2007-12-23 13:36

Mazda3 needs to go to 225/45/17 if you are looking for more choices. However, with the stock rims, you will have the 4x4 look!! (your car will look "elevated" due to the lower profile tires)

Falkens are generally good choice for summer use, all-season is better with Yokohama or Kumho.

where do u buy for 116? i quote from kaltire for 160
作者: 字典仔    時間: 2007-12-26 11:21

rickrick: barF1 bought it 2 months ago when they had a $100 off if u are buying 4 tires, so that's why it was only $116 FOR 4 tires, plus he drove down to the states to get them...and i think it's 14" compares to 17"?

i wouldn't complaint if it's only $116, but then i dun wanna save that little and costed more if accident is going to happen...so i would never be cheap on tires and brakes...

but then again, if u think u have a pretty clean driving record for the last 5 years or so, then honestly the more experience u get the least requirement on tires it will be (but of course would still have to meet some sort of standard for one's driving)...

pkphilip: which yoko u think is good for all season? i dun really like all the yokohama tires i have tried on wet and snow, actually my GC used to have a set of AVID V4 (which was costed more than Dunlop SP5000 etc), turned out it hydroplanned so bad and snow traction is even worse than the stock RE92....was coming down SFU side by side with my friend and i couldn't stop for the light (snowing and they couldn't clean up the road fast enough)...i sold it right after that...

i am more of a fans for dunlop SP5000, Bridgestone RE960 if not choosing Kumho ASX, but that also depends on car types etc...
