Many of you already knew, I guess.  However, I rarely buy stuff online and have it shipped from the US to my address here in Vancouver.

That's why I rent a mail box just across the boarder. Will just drive over to pick up. Of course not worth the gas and time if it's something small and available in Canada. My hubby buys stuff like tires, radiator, games, electronic staff, etc

I paid $38 extra to UPS when my ebay item was delivered at my house. The item I won is $50us and S&H to seller is $27us. So from now on whenever the carrier is UPS, I avoid to bid.

all the couriers charge excessive brokerage, UPS being the worst of all
USPS is the best, only charges $5 + PST/GST on declared value

I bought something from US, and the buyer accidentally shipped by UPS.  To 'boycoytt' UPS's unacceptable fee, I called them up and said I will do the clearance myself.

To do that, when the item arrives:
1. Go to the UPS depot in Richmond Airport and pick up the item description form;
2. Go CBSA, about 10 minutes drive, and do the tax clearance;
3. Then, take the form back to UPS and they will release the item to you, free.

Of course I have to take 1/2 day off for doing so, but I just don't want the stupid UPS to eat up my 'blood sweat money'.

I thought they only charge brokerage fee for ground shipping.  The clearance fee is included by air.  So ship by air is cheaper than ground shipping (unless you clear brokerage yourself).

i work for UPS, avoid the brokage fee, should use express, express saver, expedited services, they wont charge on those services......,

i totally understand u guys feeling, i feel embarres to collect the money from customers
作者: sky    時間: 2009-5-17 09:30

another solution might work, try refuse the package when the package arrive at your door, reason is no c.o.d, or no brokeage fee, when the pkg return to the depot, csr will or might call u, at that time, u can neg. the fee with them

I always use Fed Ex. Customs brokerage is included in the freight.
For UPS, I tried once only because the shop only have UPS or USPS. I pay USD$25 for next day service by UPS. That is a good deal! The shop is in the east coast of USA.
People try to use cheap service will always end up paying more for those ebay or on-line shopping.
beside brokerage, consignee also needs to pay import duty and GST.

Get Nexus, then drive to Point Robert without waiting. Then come back and taxes automatically gets charge to the card. Simple as that. (small items I go through regular)

I bought a jean through a US online store, they mailed the product via USPS, and I didn't need to pay any brokerage fee and duty fee at all. One more thing, ask them to lower your product value on the invoice, It does help to avoid those unreasonable charges.

clothing and accessories import duty 16 to 18%
+ 5% GST
+ brokerage
差唔多啦~

for Post office shipment, if you declare your shipment over CAD$20,it will need to go through Canada Customs.If you delcare the shipment is a gift, this will pump up to CAD$60.
Canada post will not charge customs but they will charge handling fee, I forgot the exact number but it seems like around CAD$10.Still you need to pay import duty and GST, sometimes PST too. I dunno why they charge PST but at the back of the B3, you can dispute the PST (PST exemption). you can finish the form and send back to CCRA/CBSA.

For shipment form Asia, I usually use Fedex or EMS(Speed Post).
Purolator will deliver the EMS orders and the customs broker for EMS shipment is PBB.Their customs brokerage for EMS shipment is CAD$6.95 only (a few years ago).
