My next non-wedding event shooting requires me to play the daytime photo slide show in the dinner session.  My 17" notebook is too heavy to carry around. I'm thinking to get one popular netbook to do onsite photo editing and slide show playing.  However, I never use netbook and not sure if their configuration is able to do simple photo editing and connecting to slide projector for slide show.
Any LYKs can share their experience with me ?
Thanks.

yes you can use netbook to do simple photo editing!!!!
b/c I used my netbook to convert RAW into jpeg and uploaded to my website last week at one of the function I went to!!!
the convertion took longer than regular desktop but it works!!!!
as for simple photo editing I am using PS CS3 pocket version!!!
you must ask what the XXX is that pocket version?
basically you can use PS CS3 without installing the program onto your netbook, laptop, or desktop

and it works like a pro

as for slide show......no idea .... b/c never try
haha

I think the only problem when using CS3 Adobe Raw is the minimum height is 800 pixel, so your RAW editor window will be cropped and can't see the OPEN, OK, CANCEL buttons.  Speedwise, it's acceptable.

If you have quite some photos to convert it might take some time... If you have a centrino single core, expect around half its speed.

For just a few photos, netbook may be OK.  For a lot of photos, you're just wasting your "life"...

From all above..... looks like a 12" notebook is more practical to work with my event photo @ location.

What is the price difference between a netbook and a Macbook?
I want a Macbook too but it may not compatible with my other 4 laptops and desktop,
then I'll have to  invest on Mac softwares and learn from beginning, too much for an old man

You can probably buy 3 netbooks for a 13" Macbook.  LOL

Macbook:
- White Polycarbonate - $1199 - Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz+GF9400 video
- Aluminum - $1399 - Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz+GF9400 video, 13" LED LCD
- Aluminum -$1799 - Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz+GF9400 video, 13" LED LCD, Backlit keyboard

Yes, with the amount of money for a Mac, you can buy 2 or 3 PC notebooks. That's the cost to be cool I guess. Mac usually don't get obsolete for at least 2 years. My mid-2007 Macbook with T7200 (2.0Ghz) is still super fast (with some upgrades like WD Black Drive & HyperX memory)

I also use a HP HDX16 at work, it's actually pretty decent. It is a Macbook Pro killer for the price and spec.

Mac is by far so much more stable and easier to use the any PC (Windows 7 maybe the exception), software wise, I think Aperature is slightly better and easier to learn than Photoshop. On the hardware side, Macs are NOT any more reliable than PCs.

Of course, you can dual boot any Mac to Windows with Boot Camp, then you can run XP, Vista, Windows 7. I am using XP most of the time on my Mac anyways.

I am not too sure about the exact pricing caz I am not into sales now. I am just an Apple tech who happens to be a heavy PC user... heehee..

I don't mind using a Mac, just that for what I want to do... PC can do it better.
