Hi, i am looking to buy a propane bbq for my balcony.
my budget is under 250 (not including taxes)

do you guys have any suggestions?
which one are you using now or planning to buy?

thanks

From what I have seen, most of the model under $300 are not really worth buying,
they are too flimsy. Basically you are looking for power, the grids, and the framework.
The side burners are optional. Good solid stainless Steel are expensive, but they are
easier to clean and maintain.
A commercial BBQ would cost $2,000 which included many safety devices and allow you
to use natural gas.
I would prefer a good Weber that you can use real charcoal and less expensive.

If you ask a professional chef, he/she might tell you to go for the most expensive ones and any cheaper one can't even work.

However, the one I'm using was bought from Canadian Tire for less than $90 (the lowest model), and it's working perfectly suiting my needs.
Depends on how many people need to be served, a less power model can fit 2-3 persons well and you'll need a higher power one for more people. (the higher the power the faster the cooking speed)

I had a nice charcoal one before, yet it's too much work to do before and after. And since you mentioned it's going to be put on the balcony, I guess it's a high rise instead of a house that has backyard? So another concern for using real charcoal is, the smoke is pretty annoying to your neighbors, especially the ones right next to you and upstairs.

I recommend a Weber, which start from under $100.
You maybe driving a Prosche, while I drive a 2003 Toyota Van.
I consider reliablility and  performance when I invest on tools,
just like you and me will not buy a calligraphy brush for $100.
I buy quality that last, not flashy products or toys. It is about value.

thanks for the suggestion.
Ya, i couldn't use charcoal bbq as per strata requirement.
i will go to Canadian tire to check it out then.
Ya, if about 100-200 bucks can do it, then i will definitely go with the less expensive ones.

again, thanks for the input....

I don't know if you have a large deck in a house or small apartment balcony but be careful, some fires are started by people bbq on their balcony when the heat got trapped by the eaves/roof. Just make sure there's empty space above the bbq.

Get a powerful electric contact grill instead, it is inexpensive, versatile,
good for indoor/outdoor, and easy to clean. Well under $200

Electric one?
The steak will not have 'char marks' ( I wonder if I got it right)
not good for presentation

Weber Q200 is what I have in my apartment.  It suits perfectly for what we need (2 person and with guests coming from time-to-time).  I got it on-sale at the beginning of the summer ~270 together the rolling cart stand.  Well, the stand is a bit flimsy, but we like it since it is fold-able and we could bring it with us for camping (haven't done that yet though).

This Weber has stainless steel burner and cast iron cooking grates.

A good electric panini grill would heat to 300C/675F, more than adequate for home cook.
and it cook from both top and bottom elements. not Foreman Grill.
On the other hand, Weber lasts almost  forever so take your pick
If for steak alone, I use La Creuset Grill iron on Propane stove (22,000 BTU),
very nice grill mark for presentation.

I have a La Creuset frying pan with the grate lines just for steaks! I love it!

La Creuset is always on my list of "want to have" kitchen toys. Before that i have to live with my cheapo cast iron pan and pot.
For BBQ, I got a Coleman RoadTrip Pro... by accident....
I ordered the smaller RoadTrip LXE model with cast iron cooking grates. BUT they shipped the wrong item to me and I didn't notice until I halt it ALL THE WAY BY MYSELF back to Canada....
I was in tears cos it's SO HEAVY for me to carry it alone. So there is no way that I will return it.

It works fine so far with the small Coleman propane tanks. We've got the hose adapter but yet to get a small propane tank to use it this summer.

I was split beween the Weber Q and the Coleman Roadtrip and picked the Coleman cos of the lower price.

I paid $162US last year for it. So I shouldn't complain.

5lb you can get everywhere, Can tire, home depot, I think even superstore carries. cost like $6.

I got a Weber Q300 earlier this year for $350 after tax at home depot during their sale. it is not portable as the other weber Q because the cart is not foldable, but it is smaller than a regular BBQ so it fit our apartment balcony perfectly. and the power is amazing too. highly recommanded if you space is limited and if not plan to bring it out.
