I worked for a non-profit agency www.chs-nw.org, and I can tell you these are meaningful line of works.

Trust me, by providing them the helps and guidance, we can often turn these people who suffer and costing tax payer money into someone who can contribute to the society.  In some cases the amount of contribution are far more than us, the normal working folks.

Know that many of us (Chinese) who were able to come to Canada/US are the very lucky bunch of folks.  There are many out there who suffers during the childhood with little to no helps.  Many of them don't choose to be that way.  It's our lag of understanding, and selfishness who push them away.

So all I need is be a bum, druck addict and wreck havoc in the community and I will get a free apart ...

And we should respect those counseling who are will to serve the community working at a non profit agency.  Many of them have to get their PHD/Master and barely make over $35K, with far less opportunity to advance in their career.

And their type of works are relatively high stress.

sorry u think that deaf and mentally ill ppl who need help are... "bum"? "wreck havoc"?

Good to know that you are seeking helps!  I did meet lots of great people with passion of their work/job where I work.  =D
