Hmmmm. I know an American who lives in Asia for years and he told me that he does not need to file tax return since he lives in Asian (not China) for many years and does not have any US income or liability.

I knew he supposes to file tax return since it is the law. However, I wasn't 100% sure and did not remind him to verify. Thinking back, I should have reminded him.

I don't know whether he will return to US. He already considers himself as an Asian and plans to live in Asia for the rest of his life. However, his children will return to US for college and their children also plan to return to Asian after obtaining their degrees. They were born in Asian and already very get used to living in Asia.
