I understand what you had encountered and I met those people sometimes as well. In my opinion, most of them do not have a solid understanding of the teachings from Bible (it does not mean I have a better understand than them). They can only read the face meaning of the texts but lack the ability and knowledge to understand and interpret the texts correctly (technically speaking I don’t know how to define correctness in situations like this, so don’t quote me on this).

In my opinion, atheism is a kind of religion as well. It denies all the possibilities of spiritual matters.

It was regard as one kind of religious beliefs in communism countries such as China (maybe it still is now). People used to proudly put down they are atheist under the “religious belief” section when they filled out their personal information sheets.
