For those who just want a shot of caffeine, K-Cup has the best selection and the ability to make your own ground.

Of course, I will not let anyone bring such machine to my home as it is a disgrace to me.. I am sure I make better coffee than these machines will.

After contemplating for months, capsule vs. drip

I am using this as my daily driver:

It doesn't need paper filter, and the brew time is about 5 min per 16oz mug. I think it is cheaper and better than any capsule brewer. There are 2 settings (bold & reg) and the pressure is good.

I am a coffee geek, and would prefer my expresso machine or siphon coffee maker. still, for quick fix, the Hamilton does the job.

For rare ones like Kopi Luwak (cat xxxx), siphon is the best because of the distillation and finer filter, it takes the bitterness out of it and comes out in a clear, citric taste coffee. If you use french press, I think the texture will become complicated (wasteful).

I might be buying the Bodum Santos:


It is a stove-top siphon maker and eliminate the needs for a seperate burner like my friend has.

Talk about beans, I am getting very picky. Personally I prefer single origin because of the purer taste. For expresso, I am still using Lavazza Crema e Aroma; and will be trying Hawaii Moloka'i soon. For the daily stuff, it would be Salt Spring Sumatra or Trader Joe's Kona. I am averaging about paying for $15/lb in coffee beans.

Green Mountain and Kopi Kuwak is overrated for me.

I rather have Kona or single origin Sumatra :-) I may have bad taste, but those expensive 2 taste like tea.
