Need a few recommendations for a casual friends-gathering dinner (less than 5 people). Want to stick with Chinese or white food. This can be buffet or just regular dining. Budget can be up to $30 per person

I've considered the Friday night buffet at JJ's Restaurant inside VCC. I've been there twice and don't mind going back.
I've also considered Bistro 101 at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts in Granville Island http://www.bistro101.com/ which I've had lunch there previously. That was a long time ago and I don't recall if they were good or not. But I remember it was rather slow.

Any other recommendations for somewhere that's a little special, but the food is rather safe (nothing too exotic), and the environment is not too formal but good for chats?
