據海外媒體5月3日北京報道，中國國家能源局日前表示，中國將在5月9日正式在南中國海東部地區部署第一個國產深海半潛式鑽井平台，這標志著中國深水石油戰略的開始。

中國國家能源局在4月28日刊登在其官方網站上的一份報告中說，“海洋石油981”深海鑽機將用來鑽取荔灣6-1-1井，水深1500米，設計井深2371米。荔灣6-1-1井計劃在56.5天內完鑽。

中國國家能源局說，作為一次試運轉，“海洋石油981”深海鑽機在2月21日被搬遷到南中國海的東部地區，完成流花29-2-1井的鑽井任務。流花29-2-1井設計井深3230米，水深753.3米。

中國第3大石油公司中國海洋石油總公司（中國海油/CNOOC）是這部深海鑽機的所有者和作業者。
