There is nothing wrong with "squeezing between buses and MTRs". Many large cities like New York and London are like that. Public transit is more environmentally friendly.
I am surprised that your few days in Japan were pleasant, when the air is polluted with radioactive material and in Tokyo the subway is just as crowded. Some of my Hong Kong friends would rather take their vacation in mainland China where the beautiful countryside is much wider, and accessible with extensive highway systems and shiny new golf course.

Due to the high living standards in Hong Kong, I do know some people who decided to move to mainland China, where even in the major cities, the shopping streets are less crowded and apartments are more spacious. Dining out is also more affordable.

In fact, pee on the sidewalk is common in Japan/Korea.
Canadians or Hong Kongers who like to shop in the US for cheaper products, should not complain too much about mainland Chinese shopping in Hong Kong, since they are doing just the same activity.

The main point is that Canadians or Hong Kongers shopping in the US for cheaper products, is the same as mainland Chinese shopping in Hong Kong, just exactly the same activity.

You can't really just compare Hong Kong with the whole of North America. That is not the right comparison. Hong Kong is part of Greater China, the most dynamic region in the world today. If you want to participate in the rapid rise of the Chinese nation, the strongest in centuries, you should be there now and contribute, rather than just bash and complain.

Normally, it will take a country about 60 yrs to be transformed into a fully developed economy. China is only half way there, but certainly it will take more time.
30 yrs ago when they were still poor, the bashers looked down on them. Now they are making a bit more money, the haters become jealous. This is just human's natural behavior.
From my observation, the haters are using the next 20-30 yrs to launch a desperate attack on China, physically and verbally, before it is too late when China becomes fully developed.
