The former operator of the Richmond Night Market says he's going to re-establish the summer event next to a New Westminster casino.

Raymond Cheung said he plans to relaunch the event as a family friendly affair this May in a large vacant lot next to the Starlight Casino in Queensborough, east of Vancouver.

The attractions will include hundreds of food and merchandise stalls, live entertainment, rides, carnival games and free parking, Cheung said Thursday.

New Westminster Mayor Wayne Wright said he was thrilled by the announcement but Cheung still needs to complete a traffic study and get his final permits approved before the event can receive the official go-ahead.

Cheung established the Richmond Night Market in 2000 and ran it every summer until 2007 when rising rent for the site led him to close down the event.

A second group launched a new event in Richmond in 2008 called the Summer Night Market, but Cheung sued them for copyright infringement in a dispute over the name. A decision on that case is expected in weeks, Cheung said.

If you read the comments from cbc.ca website, most people saying that it is very difficult to get into that NW area due to one way or no left turn?

I wonder who will rent booth there since no one tried anything in NW.
Richmond seems able to generate more traffic and business. (NW is a dead town haha)

Ray Ray really really want to setup night market.....
He should put his effort to do something else...

Eg, Ray Ray Indoor 夜市 (for winter)
