Howcome you people who feels discriminated don't see how Caucasians are welcoming minorities? Have you ever encountered Caucasians who try to speak limited Chinese to you when they see that you are Chinese? Have you ever encountered a Caucasian that said to you: "Ni Hao Ma?" or "Xie Xie" or recently "Gung Hei Fat Choi" to you? They might not know our language, but even if they only know 3 words max, they still try their best to say it whenever they get a chance. It shows that they recognize us, and appreciates our culture within our Canadian citizenship. Even if you haven't met those people, have you never met Caucasians who tell you about their wonderful trips into China, HK, & other parts of Asia? If not, then i think you are the one that haven't been dealing with enough white people.

Think of all the large events that the city has put on to recognize the Chinese minority: Moon Festival, CNY, etc. Chinese is probably the most recognized "minority culture" across Canada.

Adapting here doesn't mean you need to say "geez & eh". You can still say your "wah", I can still say my "wow". The thing that Toppy and some people have trouble adapting is the SPIRIT & LIFESTYLE. The barrier is only there if YOU put it there.

And about learning English... when I was in grade 1 newly immigrant, i spoke barely a word of English & of course required to take ESL. after only ONE YEAR, from being an ESL student, I was transfered to TUTOR other peers to read english. Why? I used to go to the library to borrow 20 kids' novels to read every week. Learning English hard? What about French for us Chinese? I took French from Grade 1 to 12 too. I went from a C- in grade 3, to an A in grade 4 and ever since it's either A or B. From the lack of practice, I can't speak as good now, but at least I can read general French. You don't need to be pro, as long as you know.

As for dealing with racist Caucasians. There are those out there. But with the promote of multiculturalisam, those too have adapted & gotten less. If you can't deal with it, it's your problem. When you face those Caucasians, have you ever told them in their face: "I don't care, I am Canadian & we all are. you should respect that". Have YOU? Well, maybe you should try next time, and see their sorry faces with nothing to say. Especially Toppy. You are the one that doesn't have the guts to "deal" with white people, speak up, & respect.
