probably your bill was sent in june, but part of your billing cycle is in july, so they charged you hst on the days that fall in july

but they did good promotion this time.  as soon as the cashier explained to seniors why the price is higher, the seniors have no doubt.  usually chinese seniors know every little about new tax

ice cream is not basic grocery, so it is subject to taxes.  the $20 limit is only apply to basic groceries, which are eggs, milk and.... plus that supermarket really marks up the price.  if you add the state tax and exchange rate, sometimes it is better off to buy here.  especially the milk, walmart has better price.
if you smoke, you are only allow to take back one opened package.  the rest are subject to tax.
