LOL@the article when i saw how they used the word "資深" to describe the owner
I am suspecting my first sheltie (bought at that richmond center pet habitat) is from a puppymill too. He looked very 憂鬱 when we got him, plus he does show difference from other shelties since his coat is not as long and his nose is longer. I think he's not very purebre and thus he's probably not from a reputative/quality breeder.

and also forgot to mention
people at pet habitat has no knowledge about the animals (altho they pretend to have some)
They told us to feed my dog only 20 kibbles for one meal and the next day when we took him to the vet for a check, the vet told us our dog was kinda skinny and eat as much as possible

the only store that impresses me is Tisol
but that's more a pet supplies store since they don't sell animals
their staffs in general know quite a lot about animals, plus they have a big selection of pet food from better quality dry food to raw diets
I would always visit them whenever I need something for my dogs

Puppy mill:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppy_mill
poor breeding/sanitary condition, suffering from health and social problems are the key points

Actually when I was getting my second sheltie and browsing through many reputative breeders' websites (I contacted 2 of them via email too)
I found that most puppies (even with champion parents) do not cost over $1K (maybe certain breeds are more expensive, I don't know. But at least my 1st sheltie coming from pet habitat is so much more expensive than my 2nd sheltie coming from a breeder)
so we can tell how much profit are the puppy mill making by making puppies so over priced while the facility is in such a bad condition and dog parents are suffering

hey I don't know if it's the pet shop or the puppy mill
but I don't like both of them anyway

and the problem is
Not too many people know the existence of puppy mill...........................
I didn't know what was puppy mill when I got my first dog
when I was getting my second dog, I knew what it was finally and decided not to go to petshop and go straight to breeder

the thing I like about reputative breeders is that some would actually ask you to write a bit about yourself and how you are going to take care of the puppy. If they think you are not suitable, they will not even sell the puppy to you.
