In my opinion, as soon as you landed and got your PR status, you are residents of Canada and all Canadians are subject to world income (have to report all income regardless whether you earned in HK or Canada or elsewhere)

The fact that you didn't file your tax returns doesn't mean that you are exempt from Canadian tax. Even though you didn't physically stayed here your status would probably be considered as "resident" because   1. you have intentions to return shortly,    2. you are "landed immigrants" and have "living ties" with Canada
