While I agree that teachers going on strike / job action is not ideal, if you actually know any teaching staff in the high school system, you'll get a different perspective on things.

All too frequently, the various school boards violate their own rules -- student class size rules (eg. too many students per teacher), special needs student rules (eg. throwing them into regular classes when they are supposed to be in special ed classes), ridiculous compensation schemes (eg. getting 3 days worth of time off for sinking in over 3 month's worth of effort in doing class time tables). You have to realize that a lot of times, the teachers are not going on job action simply for their own wages. A lot of times, they are simply asking the province and the school boards to live up to their promise, and to deliver the teaching resources that they need in order to do their jobs properly.

The same goes for healthcare professionals too. When they take on job actions, sometimes, it is about wages -- which could be reasonable or not. But a lot of times, they are simply asking for the resources that they need in order to get their jobs done right.

You have to realize, teaching staff are not always asking for wage increases for themselves. They could be asking for extra head counts. Continuing with my previous example, that could be an extra teacher to correct the overloaded student-teacher ratio. Or it could be a special ed staff member that takes on the special needs kids so that they don't have to be placed in the regular class and end up disrupting the rest of the kids. Resources like that would show up as salary as well, but it isn't always about wage increase.

Again, try speaking with a high school teacher and ask about the program and funding cuts that they have seen under the BC Liberals "leadership" over the past 10+ years. You'd be surprised at how resilient they are in putting up with all sorts of funding cuts.

You can only stretch things so much when you do more with less.

The average classes here already have fewer students than those in Hong Kong. These people have been over paid for a long time, but teaching quality has not been improving. Maybe they should take a pay cut now, to save the taxpayers some expenses.

你話就係呀？香港教育不溜都係一味填鴨式咁樣質你啲學生死記，而完全唔會教你點樣去獨立思考㗎啦？而且所謂嘅母語教學只係搞到全部所有學生中英文都唔掂。搞通識，又係做到一pat屎咁。依家話要推行愛國洗腦教育lu喎，又俾所有名校聯名一齊diu。

每一次我踢爆你啲廢話同大話嘅時候，我都會同你講，你乜撚野都唔撚識，就唔該你咪撚出聲！

Union dues are typically only 2 to 3% at most. It is certainly still something, but I wouldn't call that a lot la. In exchange for the better benefits and rights that you get, they could be worthwhile ge.

我當然唔係講通識教育啦~

當年Phy, Chem, Bio 我都冇背過乜野 model answer, 中英數就更加冇得背. 比著我有得讀通識, 我都一定唔會背啦! 通識呢d 科, 高分又點woh, 考到夠入U 既grade 就得啦! 駛唔駛走去背model answer 咁辛苦呀..

通識嘅原意係想教曉（或者開始教）小朋友點樣去有獨立思考、有批判性思考。你家陣要背 model answer，咁咪即係同個理念背道而馳？咁你仲搞乜撚野通識？你估讀通識真係想你樣樣都識咩？
