I've been too busy to post this (and a few other related news articles) myself, so thank you for bringing this up.

Also, I want to emphasize the government's official insistence to deny that the 豆腐渣工程 has resulted in the collapse of the buildings (and schools in particular). Their official "story" insisted that the magnitude of the earthquake caused the buildings to collapse, so the deaths were the result of an act of nature. Had the deaths been the result of the 豆腐渣工程, somebody would have to bear the responsibility.

If you haven't been watching the news, here is some reporting from TVB News on the issue:

I eagerly await what our 5 cents Peter boy has to say about this.

Yes, of course. And that is precisely why the Central Government is trying hard to keep a lid on this. To dig deeper would only reveal the extensive level of corruption that is going on at the local (or higher) government levels, and of course we know that in the eyes of the Central Government, this government embarrassment would disrupt "harmony".

p.s. Harmony my a$$, man... there is no harmony when everyone knows it's all fake.

Oh man... keep dreaming your pipe dream, and keep smoking whatever you were smoking before la, MJJ. To quote our infamous Emperor Jiang, you are just "too simple, sometimes naive"

Clearly, some officials are responsible for those tofu schools. When those schools were built, someone had to be responsible for approving those building permits. Now the provincial government is just covering up who was responsible for approving those schools.peter236 發表於 2009-5-8 00:23

So you recognize that 豆腐渣工程 exist as well? Given that they do exist, why does the central and provincial government continue to deny that it was the very reason that caused the massive number of deaths, especially at local schools and such? And why are no government officials and construction companies punished as a result?

Compare this to the melamine milk scandal, this 豆腐渣工程 incident was handled even more poorly. In the melamine milk scandal, the Mung Au CEO was sent to "life imprisonment" (with rumours claiming that her "imprisonment" doesn't really amount to much of an imprisonment at all). Officials were disciplined and fired from their existing positions, only to be discovered later that there were merely restored in office somewhere else. But with the 豆腐渣工程, the Central Government continues to try covering it up however they can. Let me ask you directly -- how is this acceptable?!

http://hk.news.yahoo.com/article/090506/4/c1qi.html

The writing is all over the wall. Tell me what kind of government this is?!?!

This one pisses me off the most:
