Cafe de Coral and Fairwood certainly need to answer to their investors and stakeholders. But with profits of $300M and $100M, respectively, I think investors should be more than satisfied.

At the same time, these massive and nearly duopolistic giant companies need to fulfill their corporate moral duties. A balance needs to be struck between the investors' and the public's interest. But right now, the scale is tipped too far in the investors' interests. That in itself is causing civic discontent, leading to civic instability and unrest.

since HKD had peg USD for many years,  there is a chance that HKD have been over valued. Once its unpegged, it might be depreciated to 1 USD to 10 HKD.

That could certainly be a potential problem, and I am not well-versed enough in economics and finance to tell whether the HKD is over-valued. But one other failure of the tying the HKD to the USD is that the economic cycles between HK (and to a certain extend, China) and the US are mis-matched. The US economy is doing rather poorly, but HK's economy is doing relatively well. But because the currencies are tied, the US's fiscal policies (including the interest rates) are hurting HK badly, and HK has lost one of the biggest tools (interest rate control) to protect its own economy.

Overall, I see more benefits in ditching the USD pegging than to keep it. But again, I won't claim to be an expert in these areas.

If Grandfather would allow it, perhaps the best move is to simply unpeg the HKD from the USD, and peg it to the RMB instead. China's economic engine is running stonger than ever, and by all indications, it will continue to do so for the next 10 - 15 years until the aging population and structural problems caused by the 1-child policy begin to rear their ugly heads. Doing that would buy you another 10 - 15 years, which I'd say is pretty good la.

RMB is not traded in open markets.  "pegging to the RMB" is equivalent to saying you can exchange  ...

True. By then there is really no need to have the HKD and Macau dollar la. Which is exactly what I was saying in an earlier post.

The one-child policy is not applicable to the rural areas, and to couples who are single child.

Do you really think I am as stupid as you are? Of course I know the one child policy is not applicable to rural areas, and there are other exemptions to the rule as well. But none of them changes the fact that disproportionate aging of the population is going to cause serious social, economical, medical, structural, and political problems in China. And this is a planted time bomb that China would have a very difficult time to handle since you can't grow people into adulthood over night.

未出世，所以好難切實咁答你。不過70年代果陣香港樣樣野都開始興旺同向好果方面發展，所以絕對有得諗。但如果係 70年代之前就唔好喇，因為果陣社會不公嘅程度同依家有得揮。

但我可以好肯定咁同你講，可以揀今日香港同70年代尾同80年代嘅香港嘅話，我諗都唔使諗，一定會揀70尾、80年代果陣嘅香港。
