It is not too difficult to make the crusty rice, as long as you have a heavy gauge pot.
In cooking class for Caucasian, Japanese, Szechuan, Thai , Vietnamese and  Easy Indian cooking, I do not
use rice cooker, I use the pot of pressure cooker, cook in the normal manner. The result always turn out good.
Just adjust the water ratio according to the recipes,  clean up is relatively easy too.
I insist that I have no intention to get into dog-fight, I did not even reply to some challengers,m simply start another
posting. I only say what I actually  know about and what the fellow LYK would like to hear;
the proof is in the replies.

When you buy a large clay pot in Chinatown, they would test it for you(not the 99 cents ones).
It is not necessary to soak the clay pot every single time, but keep an eye on and do not
cook at extreme high heat. Turn the heat to simmering after the water come to a boil, and
cook gently for 20 minutes. The rice should be cooked, but it would taste better if you allow
it to stand/or sit for another 5-6 minutes.

Well, I posted 48 messages in this thread, 37 of them were replies to queries
from 12 LYKs; and I did not spark any fire or even defending myself.
I surely hope  we could  co-exist in this forum.
I speak only the topic I know well, and believed that they are true, nobody need
to trust me or bother  reading  my posting, if you think I have bad attitude or incompetent.
