Some bar and restaurant owners say B.C.'s tough new drunk driving laws are causing a drop in business.

Linda owns a popular restaurant in South Surrey and tells us they've definitely noticed a change after the new laws. "People who would come and order a bottle of wine are now maybe ordering a glass. A lot of our customers who are driving are just not drinking."

Actual numbers from the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association aren't available yet but News1130 is hearing some bars and restaurants are claiming a drop in sales ranging from 10 to 30 per cent - or even more.

It seems many people just aren't sure how much alcohol it takes to blow .05, which the blood alcohol level that can mean getting you car impounded under the new laws. They're playing it safe and sticking to water or soft drinks.
