My guess is that Admin will love to see his site to be loved and with traffic. It's not the ad or whatever, but how would someone not like to see his/her creation be warmly welcomed and recognized by other people? On the other hand, admin has his own set of believes, he likes to see his forum be PG13. Of course, he paid for bandwidth and he upkeep the maintenance, he gets to do whatever he wants.

On the other hand, as a visitor, many people want a forum to endorse freedom of speech, as that is part of the reason why visitors actually visits generic forums like LYK (as opposed to more subject specific forums, like cellfone/cars/or even professional/academic discussions). Lots of things they can't say out loud in real life, so the rather consult in forums, vent or whine in forums instead. Some just want to come up and see that things are easy going, loosly controlled and hilariously funny.

So the current situation in LYK currently is comprehensible. A lot of voices wants freedom of speech, these people wants a place where primarily Vancouver hongers can just chill n relax and BS a bit. While some just want LYK to be primarily for informative purposes only. The admin want the forum to be catered for the latter crowd, which is absolutely fine. But it also means that the former group of people will be disappointed, and might ultimately become CD-ROMs or just leave. In which case, admin will also not get the traffic or endorsement that he probably also wants.

In the end, this is just conflicts of interests within admin himself, and also conflict of interest between 1 group of audience and another group of audience. Not saying I agree with what the admin is doing, but as this is his forum, he gets to decide whatever he wants his forum to be 1 way or another. Complaints are rather useless, as many people are right, this place IS indeed dictatorship, because admin is the only person who paid for the upkeeping and the bandwidth, he has the right to keep this place as dictatorship.

Perhaps if people are unhappy enough, they can go start a VanHKGolden or something, I'll be happy to join~ Until then, we can only live with LYK however admin wants it to be.

If that's what the admin wants, and he is the one paying for the site. Nothing much we can do about this. He has no responsibility to the audience. Theoretically he can ban whoever he doesn't like, or even close down LYK tomorrow if he wants. It's not like he is the Prime Minister and we are paying tax for him to be around. He is volunteering his time and his money to keep LYK going (I highly doubt the LYK ads is making this site profitable for him).

Don't get me wrong chunsh, I always like ur posts and also lancer's posts. Most of them are just reflecting reality with a dose of sarcasm. I guess some people don't like to be reminded of the reality in a supposingly peaceful virtual society.

Define "contribution". It seems that it's "contribution" in the eyes of the admin = contribution. Does not necessarily mean the rest of the LYK community think it's a contribution.

For example some might think that voices supporting view point of a certain group of people is "contribution", but I might think that a more diverse opinion base is "contribution"...

so in the end, if it's admin's call for what's "contribution", then it's really nothing more than at the admin's discretion. At that point there is no need to make stupid excuse like "banning tolerance is based on contribution" because it's really just "banning is completely up to the admin's discretion".

Dictator 就 dictatorship, don't need to make any excuses.
