I don't know how ppl can manage to text msg and drive at the same time. It's so dangerous!

Anything "divert" your attention while driving is dangerous. IMO

I guess we have different definition of the action that "divert" your attention during driving.

Talking on cell phone (holding the cell phone)?
Talking on cell phone (hand free)
SMS text msg
Talking to other passenger
Eating
Listening to radio
etc etc.

For me, the worst case is anything that take away one hand so that you have to hold the steering wheel with one hand only.  Why? With one hand driving, it's not "quick" enough to react (or steer away) from any dangerous situation. In that sense, eating, talking w/ cell phone, sms are dangerous IMO. I don't see talking is that much of distraction but argueing w/ your passenger sure is.
Listening to radio on the other hand, is not as bad and I think sometimes it's necessary. It gives traffic info, and sometimes music could help the mind to focus (some people listen to radio while studying, same idea). Just my 2 cents.
