One time .. I had lost my HK ID for .. ~ 1 yr ..  

Then one day, the dentist who bought my car called me, and found it when he took out the driver seat for detail!!

just joking... normally if you bring something to police station, 6 months later if nobody claimed, it will be yours, in case you don't know...

Funny, I took it to the MAIN POLICE station, they asked me to come back during their OFFICE HOUR wor ..  ( 8-5 )

Then I just gave it to whoever Police I saw on the street ...  may be he had kept it at the end ..
