My frd has a turbo 08 with manual and i drove his car for a day before i brought my C2S 09' PDK.  I would say PDK is a faster transmission and feels a lot better.  I used to drive a E46 M3 with manual was quite tired with it and very often i stuck in traffic.
My car has PASM too when PSM is off is a little scary since my car is not all wheel drive. It feels like the car was a little off balance when comes to corners.  But generally i think PDK is alot better than the old tiptronic and even the manual imo.
Maybe you should try the PDK sometimes and tell me how you feel about it. I think i'll go for a C4 or C4S when the new 911 comes.  Would be nice to have a C4S/turbo/turbo S with PDK. Anyways i think the manual wasn't too bad but not a everyday car for me.

PDK is better then manual and tiptronic ..

However, not mean the "best" fit tranny for everyone, just like 911 is not the best overall car in the world, people buy them since they want it.

For richmond C9, then auto (pdk) is good ..  almost a must ..  lol!

Other than style can you name any other sports cars that has better performance/handling than the porsche 911 at its price?

Manual is good so as PDK but PDK is new and faster transmission. PDK is similar to the F1 transmission and gives better respones compare to the standard transmission. Also it's more ideal for everyday driving.

I'll only recommand people who can affort a PDK 911 to try it before they decide getting the standard transmission.

For stupid people who thinks PDK is "almost a must" for C9. Thats probably the funniest sh1t i've ever heard.  I know many C9 at the age of 50-60ish are still driving standard transmission.  Since automatic wasn't popular back 30+ years ago and peopke get used to the standard transmission.  The funny thing is that very often you see kids at age 17-25 have more speeding tickets/car crush than those C9. What a shame
If porsche mainly target PDK for C9. I guess it would be a shame to get the new GTR that comes with a STANDARD double clutch transmission.

Since you said (pdk) auto is "almost a must" for C9   Please tell me more about PDK when you actually have a "chance" to drive a 911 PDK.

Sigh ..  suen ba la..

This is EL's thread ..

I said "AUTO" is almost a must for C 9  .. not said PDK is a must for C 9, but since PDK/DSG/F1 shift etc is the only kind of "automate" tranny for sports cars .. so if a C 9 is buying a M3 or Porsche, they HV to pick DSG/PDK. (no TRADITIONAL auto now)

Again, I do agree PDK/DSG is a better/faster tranny, but is it more fun?  it depends, look at GT3/GT3 RS/GT2/GT2 RS, NO PDK! even with PDK, same car can be 0.2-0.3 sec quicker on straight, and 5 second quicker at the ring....

Just like C4S vs C2S, some prefer C2S, some prefer C4S.

Anyway, pass this back to EL, I dont want to steal his thread ..  even he doesn't mind.

Again, most people buy 911 is not for speed. ( ie: used 993 is MORE/AS expensive as used 997, and it is not faster, a good RS, still worth ~ $200K)

How about something that is cheaper than the 911?

The Corvette ZR1 is much, much cheaper than the 911, but it is every bit as fast, and probably easier to handle at the limit than the 911 b/c of the 991's inherent imbalance.

Also, don't forget that the Cayman is a car intentionally crippled by Porsche to not beat out the 911. Equipped with an LSD, a Cayman S would be easily faster than a rear drive 911 in tighter courses.

Don't be a badge snob and think that Porsches are the be-all-end-all sports cars la~

LIK,

I think u mean ZR1 is cheaper then 911 Turbo and GT3 ... but not cheaper then NORMAL 911... (about same as C2S / 4S loaded )  Z06 is something cheaper and faster then 911.

U don't need much on a Cayman S, for you and me, with Cayman S will hv better lap time ....

911C2S used to be faster then C4S on track .. but not anymore la...

Yes, I don't mind at all.  I rather we have more LYK actively talking & sharing...!
Now back to my own topic.
I m not a car expert like many of you are, and speed is not the only factor I look at.  It all about driving experience, and to be able to enjoy driving it each time I enter into the car.  The C4S works for me.
For total performance, I can easily spend another $10-$15K on my STi, and turn it into a AWD beast.  Don't forget that I already had good aftermarket suspension on it.  But no matter what I do, I can't turn my STi into a convertible.  So, in order for me to find AWD, Convertible, 4 seated with relatively good performance (Handling, but not just), I think the C4S has it all.

Now, back to the PDK vs 6-speed.  I kind of know what to expect on the PDK, cuz my wife RDX has paddle shift, and I have been in my friend's Ferrari with F1 2 years ago.  It's not so much about speed, but it's too video game feels.  Driving a stick is all about perfecting my shifting, and heel-toe, rev match.  it's the involvement in driving.  I know I will have more fun driving a 200HP stick than a 400HP auto.  So, no GT-R for me.
It's true that I do get the bonus here in Seattle, where I do get to have alot more fun driving , instead of getting stunk in traffic.  I actually have a good mix of Hwy speed, on/off ramp, local roads with some twisty + up/down hills in my 30 mins driving To & From work.

Like I said before, I know I will eventually have a car that would be using some sort of advance auto tranny, but the time is not right now...!

My Wish:  I will have a daily drive stick or auto inexpensive fun car to drive, the 2nd would be a Ferrari with F1

$130000 Corvette ZR1 is much much cheaper than 911?
Porsche has better stability/handling/connection between the road and driver which ZR1 can never achieve. For high performance sports cars are not just about the "speed". Even a low price STI can be really fast but thats totally different when compare with the 911 series.

911 customers are paying for the quality not just the " Porsche badge " not just the speed and not just the appearence. Is the "Overall driving experience" we're talking about. For its price i think only GTR might be more close when comes to handling and quality of driving experience.

Simply watching videos/playing video games won't give you the actual feeling of a Porsche.

The people who own a 996/997 before should know what im talking about and for those who never drove a 911 before can never understand the "driving experience"

Cayman S is more than a poor man's 911.
So talk to me when you have money for a used Cayman S.
你好嬲呀?

Didn't check your last post anyways we have similar thoughts.
Porsche - Quality driving experience.

PDK is different than just paddle shifting and don't get me wrong i like the standard too but thats not an ideal everyday drive for me.  I would like to have a manual for my Second car and PDK/similar transmission for everyday drive.
Anyways all im saying is try out the PDK when you have time and see how it feels maybe you'll like it or maybe not. Thats a very personal preference but many of my frds with manual cars likes the PDK after driving my car around.

That part, yes, totally agree, 911 is a RR car to start with, can hardly touch MR layout ..  it is amazing how Porsche's  engineer can make the 911 "right".

I already explain for Lik about the ZR1/Z06 pricing, and you are right, 911 is not just about speed nor track performance, but the overall experience, that is why, some people pick manual, some pick PDK. (Tip before)

It is very true that Vancouver market, MCL sells more PDK 911 then manual 911 now, don't get me wrong, and again, PDK/DSG etc are great gear box, not just because it is quicker to do 0-60mph, but super fast downshifting as well, but will get boring soon compare to manual. (esp with short shift)

Again, doesn't matter if Lik is driving a Miata, he may or may not be able to afford a used Cayman, no big deal. I do know someone who has few Ferrari & Porsche, (430 Scud, 599) and his daily driving car is a Camry Hybrid.

Just my 2 cent.
