If you need another alternative...
http://www.generationphotography.ca/ <-- Derek

He was our photographer and he was awesome...you know its not just how well they take pictures but also how willing they are to do things you request them to do..some of the photographers I have seen - they have their own mindset and will force the bride/groom to do the same things over and over again...so stupid...Derek is super nice though and he covers full day.

Bon bon:

I didn't know this photographer but my advice is to interview with him and ask for a whole set of wedding pics from getting ready to farewell to the guests. U know often they choose the best 5 pics of each wedding to show you so it doesn't really mean anything.

I had Thomas as my wedding photographer as well. Really good attitude. My wedding day was SUPER hot and I was really tired. If Thomas and his wife weren't that cheerful and helpful I th ...

Well .. put it this way, everything in Canada .. when labor related .. is EXPENSIVE ..

Wedding photograper in Van ( on wedding day ) is quite cheap compare to other city in Canada already. (since more competition?)

I know few people here, they hire photographers from Vancouver, even with extra air ticket/hotel fee, still cost LESS then local ....

Put it this way, work in fastfood in HK ..  ~ $3-4 cad/hr  vs $10-12cad/hr here .... and wedding photographer in HK ..  ~ $12k - 15K ( full day, 2 or 3 photographers)

It is true, much cheaper there .. but consider the scale ..  ~ 50% more in Canada isn't un reasonable.

For me, I prefer experienced photographer with film, (or film + digital) then "NEW" digital photographer who loves to PS ...  If I prefer heavy PS photo, I can ask my teenage brother to take the pic, and send to CHINA for PS ..  low cost, and GREAT PS skill/effect as well..  ^_^

I used Thomas So but I have to say I am not very impressed so far.  He talks well but he doesn't "action".  My photos will take 8-10 weeks to develop and I asked if I can have one good picture now so I can make my thank you card but he said keep in touch.  My parents had to leave for Hong Kong a few days after and I asked if I can have a few pics so I can develop a few for my parents to take back, but instead, he sent me 10 previews pics.  So far, not impressed.
He asked me to pay the full balance without giving us the picture and we said no.  So far we paid 75% of the cost and am waiting for the pics to give him the rest.
Don't get fooled by his "sweet talk". it's better to get someone who provides customer service and quality pictures, not someone just good at talking and selling.

Very true, just as true as many other industries.
A simple logic, a "photographer" who has good chatting and selling technique doesn't necessary mean he/she can take nice pictures; on the other hand, a "photographer" who can shoot well but might be handicapped in customer communication skills. So of course, a "photographer" as well as a "businessman" who has all the above essentials wouldn't charge cheap.

OMG...it seems like you are referring to my photographer, ahahahaha....

Actually, for most photographers, you have pay 100% by the day of your wedding.  They won't let you withhold some until you get the pictures so that's pretty normal.

We wanted to use Thomas but he was already booked for our wedding day.  He's a really good deal compared to other ones out there and I've seen his work for a whole wedding.  Honestly, don't think Hee is all that great, even though I've seen people mention it before.
