Does any one know an inexpensive sound card that support Windows 7? My Asus P5L on board sound does not support Windows 7. I had got the driver from Asus, however it didn't work.

Thanks in advance

The P5L uses Realtek sound, can find the drivers direct: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downlo ... 3&GetDown=false

Does Windows Vista or Windows 7 format NTFS differently than the previous Windows? I know there are some changes to NTFS over the versions of Windows. So when I install Windows 7, do I just let Windows 7 reformat the partition or just leave the existing NTFS partition as is?

Thanks Philip.

My P5L-MX is using Analog Device AD1986A chip set from SoundMax. I might need to wait for them to update the drivers in future. I have tried the beta version but Windows 7 said not compatible.

regards,

I don't know the different.
Windows 7 let me install dual systems with Vista and I didn't re-do partition or reformat my hard drive.

Thanks for your advice.

I have the driver disk from Asus come with the board that has XP drivers. It doesn't work with Windows  7. I have another old machine (build in 2004) running AMD 1.7G that all drivers installed without any problem.  Wonder why somebody don't like Vista and now Windows 7.

i guess there are some sound cards  which use xp drivers that do not work in vista and windows 7

if that is the case, why not disable the sound on the motherboard, and plug in  a sound blaster card

people are throwing away a lot of pentium 4 computers these days , some have removable sound cards.
at the computer recycling place www.freegeekvancouver.org
one can            buy a sound blaster card for $5
if $5 is too much for you, they throw away a lot of sound cards that are  less full featured but are  perfectly good ,
you can buy  these cheaper sound blaster card for a $1
you may have to visit the freegeek store and look for these cards in the card sorting area
there you will find sound cards  destined for scrap, but still have xp drivers perfectly acceptable by vista ,windows 7
( you safe bet is old  sound blaster cards )

My experience with some old computer is that, once Windows Update is done, it will automatically find the drivers... even my Lexmark parallel printer that does not have Windows Vista/7 support.
