Canon Pixma 580 - Good deal

I was at staples during lunch hour and saw a Canon Pixma 560 printer on sales for $59 (including environmental fee, replacements plan, and a package of A4 paper).

I vowed never to buy inkjet printer anymore due to ink costs, but it seems too good of a deal to pass, and if I can avoid printing at London Drugs - both the driving and the quality, it seems worth the investment.

I installed the printer last night, the prints are 10X better than London Drugs'. Let's see how long these ink lasts.

Check out MP560 at Staples, if you are looking for a photo printer.

The MP560 is a discontinued model since Oct 2010, that price is reasonable for a printer that has WiFi and good photo printing.

The ChromaLife ink has always been great, however I still prefer Epson's Claria's High Definition ink  (Artisan 8xx) output.

If you could try out the Artisan 835 or 815 printers on photo, you will find that the MP560 is just a toy for the kids to play with.

wow pkphilip thanks.

Seem you konw a lot about printers,  can you give the skinny on paper and ink.  I was told to use original ink, but 3rd party paper.  Any good papers suggestions (where to buy? which kind?  I mostly print A4 size and glossy.

Thanks

Original ink is a must as the printer companies will void warranty and the print heads will wear out prematurely. The ink is part of the lubrication to the print nozzles and if there are any impurities by using third party ink, the print quality decreases significantly. Printing is a science and this is liquid engineering. :-)

For paper, stick with the same brand of the paper. The papers are designed together to work with the print head, and you can control the quality easier as you know exactly what you are using. Higher quality paper (Photo Paper Pro) has a better ink obsorbtion and protective coating so they are UV resistant and can last forever. I have been using the HP Premium Plus paper and the prints of my cats still have not faded.

If you are looking at some third party paper, the Kirkland brand from Costco and the premium photo paper from Office Depot are great. I have had good successes with them.

Many many thanks.

I will try to use the Canon paper for now.  If I have more time, I will try to calibrate it better.
