Wow... PMS much?  It's not even you who pointed out how the stat might work and even that guy provided nothing to prove he is right.  It is normal that I still don't get the stat part since he failed to explain his math.  He only stated his opinion which is not included in the article and I admit I am not a mathematician nor statistician.  How about you?

Random representative sampling is the most fundamental concept in stats. If you don't even have any fxxking clue what "representative sample" means (let alone data extrapolation), then not only are you unqualified to comment on the stats aspect of the survey, you don't even qualify to have any sort of common sense about math and logic at all.

At a layman's level, you don't need to go to politician school or even study political science to understand basic politics. Social science 11 alone devoted a good portion of the school year to teach you this. But I suppose you are too fxxking stupid to understand or recall any of it.

Just because you are fxxking stupid yourself doesn't mean I need to be at the same (low) level as you. Never assume other people are as stupid as you are.

I don't want to explain the maths here, it seems like you are lacking the background for stats (quite time consuming for me , those stuffs should be the next chapter after normal distribution, standard deviation?? Seems like you only know mean, mode and median... ). Whatsoever, there's whole bunch of info on web you can search for random sampling, population size, sample size... they are all simple concepts in stats...

BTW, it's not easy to setup an unbiased and objective survey (esp. for those setup by HKU, they are famous), if you really want to know more you have to study a little harder NOW...

You can use online calculator to work out the sample size.  

Using http://www.raosoft.com/samplesize.html, it seems 1011 is not a random number for sample size.  With population of 7M, 58% distribution, 99% confidence level and 4% margin of error (1 in 25 to be wrong) -> you need a sample size of 1011.
