hand brakes lever

Was fixing hand brakes lever of my car the other day, and saw there is one left cable and one right cable, I wonder is it legal to split the lever into two, so that left and right wheel brake independently?
First law: Every body remains in a state of rest or uniform motion unless it is acted upon by an external unbalanced force.

My advice to you ma friend, is to leave the handbrake cable "as-is".

Hand brake is designed for mostly static (stationary) car braking needs, so either 2 rears (standards these days) or 2 fronts (early subarus and Saabs), and there's no such thing called independent ...

If you temper with your car and got yourself into some kind of traffic trouble (e.g. accident of some sort), upon close scrutiny by ICBC investigators and found out that you have "modified" your hand brake cables or braking properties (differ from original factory design), they will refuse/reject your insurance claims and the other party involved might further their pursuance on court for whatever liability reasons due to your alteration of braking.
