Composition question

I found this picture on flickr and I think the composition / lighting / WB are very good. But there is a little thing that bugs me is the wooden fence in the lower left corner. It is kinda distracting but if I cover it up the picture suddenly lose the depth.

Do you think it should be included in the frame and why?

No, it should be left out of the frame.  If you want to show depth, think of another way to do it.

And btw, I think the word "composition" is too general and overly used.  I would classify or break it down into 3 components:

1) Light
2) Form
3) Point of view

I would leave out the fence too.

The photographer should think about this before taking the pic, maybe step closer and use a wider lens.

the fence is all the way to the house

Yeah.. the fence at the corner is quite distracting.  IMHO, the framing is kind of tight, and if they would to include the fence at the front, it would looks far better it the fence does connect to the house just.  I think it also has to do with the cropping.

I think the lighting is a little too flat, and therefore the picture itself doesn't look very 3D

I don't usually take picture of building, but here is a picture a took 2 years ago, it isn't very good, but I was kind of trying to do the foreground as well.

I have my reason why it was done this way, I'll let other share their opinions first, so they we can all learn something together.

You're right, the pic I posted is not very 3D, why it attracted me is because it looks like a painting and it has a lot of detail in it.

I don't mind it .. but as SB said ..  whoever took tkhe pic, can move a bit forward or upward ..

However, it may be a snap shot pic, whoever took the pic may not care.

What about this PS Photo

i think there is no should or should not.
you are the photographer, there must be some reasons for you to include the wooden fence.
for me, i like it. it can show more information about the surroundings and make the photo more interesting. i don't find it is distracting, since the proportion is not to big. it does balance out the weight of the house and actually leads your eyes to focus more on the house. without it, it would be a boring picture
