Even if the US wants to do this, do they have the capability to pull it through? The US can't and won't silence those who try to complain and raise the public awareness on whatever action they take, and ultimately, they have to bow to whatever public pressure they face.

Do you see the same thing happening in China? The moment any public pressure builds up enough towards government actions, the CPC government river crabs it one way or another.
