VANCOUVER -- Luxe Vancouver restaurants Lumiere and db Bistro Moderne will close in two weeks, Lumiere general manager Chris Gonzalez confirmed Sunday afternoon.

Staff at both West Broadway establishments, owned by superstar chef Daniel Boulud, received their notice this weekend.

also maybe the owner thinks his time is more valuable if the prices are lowered

just checked their website. Actually db bistro modern isnt high end. Dinner is <$30.

Cowboy, you are right. It's probably better investment somewhere else than dining!

<$30 are only the menu items. As is always the case, alcohol is the big money earner here for the restaurants, and db Bistro Modern doesn't just serve beer. I'd guess that the state of the economy plus the stiffer blood alcohol limit really sent a lot of people away from including alcoholic drinks as part of their meals.
