City not happy; worried about crowd control and sanitation

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Some call it one of the greatest moments in Canadian history. About 11,000 people want to remember Canada's gold medal hockey victory at the 2010 Olympics this weekend in downtown Vancouver; but the city of Vancouver is not pleased.

The party has been planned on Facebook for weeks; the idea is to shut down Granville Street again between Nelson and Georgia to remember all the chaotic fun people had when Sidney Crosby scored the golden goal.

The Province newspaper reports the city is worried about crowd control and sanitation. But on the street, we met several people who argue the city's planned party two weeks ago was a bust, so there's no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to party.

"[The moment] brought out a lot of good in the city. A lot of people were patriotic. Bring it back!" says John.

"It was kind of a big moment for us, Sidney Crosby, we won the medal," DJ tells us. "So let's make it happen again [have a] party here."

Fire and police are also opposed; if party planners get their way, expect a dance party with elaborate costumes and loud music, starting downtown on Saturday at noon. Organizers are urging people to leave the booze at home.
