Shutterbug, you can pretty much cross out the "治療AIDS愛死病有效藥開發成功". Only 6 months left for 2008, I have never heard of pharm companies or reseach is getting any close to a "cure". Unless these scientists want to surprise hell out of us.  Scientists need finance their research, they must publicize their findings to get fundings. The big pharm companies wants good stock price, they will release benefitical info from time to time to boost up the stock price. Besides, it is a very curel thing to do without letting the AIDS patient know there is hope in the horizon.  I wish he is right and I'm wrong.

小行星會否在未來撞上地球，一直是科學家十分關注的課題。據美國太空總署的資料顯示，可能對地球構成威脅及尚未發現的小行星，達到二萬五千顆。當中一顆名為「阿波菲斯」的小行星，更有機會在二○三六年撞上地球。為阻止阿波菲斯等小行星變「地球殺手」，美國國會近日批出巨額款項，用以解決它們的威脅。

美國眾議院十八日通過美國太空總署（NASA）的財政預算案，批准款項達到二百零二億美元（約一千五百七十六億港元），其中包括利用俄羅斯一個能進行遠距離航天通訊的強大雷達，來預防小行星撞上地球的項目。

撞地球威力達原子彈十萬倍
美國希望借助部署在俄羅斯遠東地區的「RT-70」雷達，以探測小行星的動向。而俄羅斯太空總署的科學家亦表示，只要得到俄國國防部的批准，俄美雙方就可確定共同使用「RT-70」雷達。

早在二○○四年，美國太空總署科學家首先發現一顆直徑為三百二十米的小行星，將於二○二九年四月最為接近地球，小行星其後被命名為「阿波菲斯」，意即古埃及的破壞之神。之後太空總署科學家認為，小行星撞上地球的機會，只有四萬五千分之一。不過，德國十三歲科學神童馬夸特，早前利用波茨坦天體物理學學院的天文望遠鏡資料，推算出阿波菲斯雖然在二○二九年會和地球擦肩而過，卻將在二○三六年重新光臨地球，撞上地球的機率為四百五十分之一，他的計算亦得到歐洲太空總署（ESA）承認。

科學家表示，如果讓阿波菲斯撞上地球，後果將會是災難性的，威力亦等於廣島原子彈十萬倍，可能產生大海嘯及濃密塵霧，令受災地區長時間陷入黑暗。為了阻止阿波菲斯及其他小行星肆虐，科學家認為，現在是時候建立強大的監察系統。
