anyone own a mini cooper ?

interested on getting one, please give me some info on the performance, fuel economy, average maintance costs? thx ^^

i dun owe one but i have worked on a few...pretty much less and less friends buying it and most of the older one are already sold...too many problems with that car...

i guess the highest mileage one was 91k and he couldn't stand it any longer; one friend even got it for just around a year and gave it back to the dealer...

better make sure u dun have any "minor" accident to the front end, easily cost over $10k for a parking lot accident on a mini

The MkI cars have a crappy Chrysler or Mitsubishi engine in it, and is definitely the weakest link for the car. The CVT transmission is also jerky at times. The MkI MCS is a bit boomy when you get on the gas.

The MkII cars have a much improved engine that is a collaboration of BMW and two other companies (I think Renault or Pegeout is one of them?). The conventional automatic transmission also seems like it is an improvement compared to the quirky CVT.

Handling is the cars' strong point, and it is hard to find another front driver that is more responsive than the Mini.

so do u guys think is not a good idea to get one then? coz' i don't know much about cars...

my friend drove the MK1 since they first release the CVT transmission.
He didn't complain anything so far. I guess it depends on how picky you are.
you might not care about some tiny little thing,
to other person it might be a huge problem to them.

If you like the car for what it is, go for it. I would avoid the MkI cars, but the MkII cars is not a bad choice. (Mind you, I wouldn't say it's an excellent choice either.)

I wouldn't go for the MCS version because the sports suspension makes the ride a bit too stiff. The car already rides on a very short wheelbase, so the stiffer suspension really makes for a harsh and jarring ride.

i own the new mini... not the CVT transmission one...
I have it for a year and 3 months...
the performance is great... great handling... the yaletown service has been great! ppl are nice there..
fuel consumption is good.. around 600KM for 1 tank of full gas... i use 94 too...
maintenance cost wise is around $105 for each year? change oil etc... not too crazily expensive...

it's a great car... loving it day by day~

I had one few yrs ago .. ( 03 or 04 .. )

It was so far so good wor ..  sold it 2 yr ago!

I liked it more then the new one, (actually, 2005/2006 are the best Mini)

You can tell the new mini, they cut corner here and there, not as good fit and finish, and not drive as sharp.

However, the new one is bigger, softer, more comfort, and faster!

Still, if u can find a 05/06 cooperS  .. that is the best Mini you can get. ( 03/04-> 6.9 sec 05/06 -> 6.5 sec 07/08-> 6.2 sec)

I agreed. the new one just too big. I dont like the height of the car,
you can easily tell the interior material been down graded.

The only thing i like about the new design is the key
