Cooking and baking are quite different, for baking, the measurement need to be very accurate therefore most self respected cooks and baker would weigh all the baking ingredients. The following are just basic guideline
As the density vary among different ingredients, we usually measure dry ingredients by weight and fluid ingredients by volume
Water, milk, coffee, juice etc. 1 Cup=250 ml or 250 gm/ 8 oz. by weight
Flour, cornstarch, rice flour 1 Cup =125 gm /8 oz. by weight
Sugar 1 Cup=250 gm by weight
Sago, dried beans 1 Cup=175 gm or 6 oz. by weight
