要求與申請難民身份韓女上床 前移民法官判監18個月

一名韓國女子以難民身份申請居留，前移民法官要求與她上床，作為申請獲批的條件。這名前任法官周四被判監18個月。被告埃利斯(Steve Ellis)，50歲，在4月被判賄賂及違反誠信罪名成立。這名女子Ji Hye Kim將2006年與埃利斯的一次會面過程拍攝下來，交給警方。
法庭外，Kim表示案件拖了4年後才有結果，令她如釋重負。她的丈夫Brad Trip補充說：「本案清楚說明，這種事到處都會發生，但加拿大人不能容忍這種事。」
埃利斯在庭上表示歉意，並且感到羞慚。他的心理學家在判刑聆訊時指出埃利斯患有雙相情感性障礙(bipolar disorder)來解釋他的行為，引致判斷錯誤。不過，法官認為埃利斯違反了他人對他的誠信，而他的所為也動搖了公眾對移民制度的信心。
控方要求法庭判處埃利斯入獄3.5年，被告律師則要求法庭判他有條件判刑。在Kim在2006年的難民申請聆訊中，埃利斯是主審法官。在多倫多一個法庭，Kim作證時稱埃利斯對她所說的一番話，她認為是他在提議發生肉體關係，令她感到不安。埃利斯曾兩度到她工作的餐廳找她。她當時25歲；而她當時的男友Trip計劃在她第三次與埃利斯在餐廳會晤時，將過程祕密拍攝下來。在影片中可見埃利斯對她說：「我知你有男友，我也有妻子；所以，如果我們秘密行事，應該沒有事的。」
Kim目前是抵步移民，因為父親虐待她，而南韓的高利貸集團又出言恐嚇她，因此申請難民身份。埃利斯被檢控後已被革除職務。他曾是多倫多市議員，曾任非執業律師，2000年獲委任為難民移民申請委員會。前自由黨政府在2004年修改了委員會委員的遴選方式，保守黨政府在2007年又再修訂一次。

Abused by her father and chased after by loan sharks in South Korea... as excuse to get refugee status? Last I know South Korea is a fairly civilized society that have cops to deal with these things....

I am willing to pay (through taxes) a North Korean escapee to start a honest life in Canada... A South Korean? No wonder the judge asked for favours out of this one... cuz otherwise in regular cases, no way he'll give her refugee status.

Last time I checked South Korea is even more up tight than Japan in terms of traditional values.  There were several cases about female actresses got raped by own managers and TV managers to get exposure and ended up committing suicide.  Also wife beating was still pretty common there... I wonder where did you get impression from?

It's like just looking at Shanghai and say China ia a fairly civilized society... bummer
