加拿大蒙特利爾一名男子忘記帶護照，但憑掃描存檔在平板電腦內的護照及駕駛執照副本，成功往返美加兩地。三十三歲的賴希說，上星期準備前往美國，送聖誕禮物給朋友的子女，但抵達美加邊境關卡前半小時，發現無帶護照，若回家拿護照，要花兩小時，他最後決定向美國關員講真話，並展示在iPad內的護照及駕駛執照副本，關員起初有些不耐煩，拿走他的iPad離開幾分鐘，結果返回櫃位後破例准他入境，並祝他聖誕快樂。他幾小時後用同一方法，返回加拿大。

賴希說，由於擔心遺失護照或被偷去，很久前已為護照拍照存檔，但承認下次不會這麼幸運，一定會帶護照過關。不過他希望最終邊境當局可接納數碼化的證明，作為旅遊證件，正如不少航空公司已接受儲存在智能手機內的數碼登機證一樣。
