for people who know who i am and what i do. i can tell you. i have seen a few things at the sorta underground world. and today. i went by cheapskate at dunbar and 19. the boss told me they are downsizing. and not gonna be selling consignment bikes anymore in the future.
and i can tell you this. for the past 5 years. i have went through the dumpster and i have seen lots of broken locks (mostly got cut off) and i have even seen a really strong U lock got cut off. and what is going on. there are people who are too rich and leave their luxurious bicycles "locked up" unattended. and there are people who are into taking them.
if you want to see it for yourself. go to dunbar and 19. they are gonna be closing one store by next thursday oct 15. and all the bicycles are on sale now for $20. if you pay attention to the type and the condition of the so called "consignment" bicycle. you will surely have a second thought on where they actually come from. and there will always be a chance for you. to recover your stolen bicycle at a consignment store just like that.
i have been informing the police about that. and as a routine. all consigned items with a readable serial number will go through the rcmp database. and from what i have heard. only 1 bicycle is reported as stolen within the time frame of one year for that particular store. so what is going on. i suspect people who got their property stolen are either: not having the guts to report to the police. not carrying any photo or original invoice of their property. or just did not care. and sit at home. blaming the thief. (and maybe planning to buy a new one soon)
i myself do not like seeing these things happening. but it does. and i have seen too many. and at some point. i almost give my respect to the "organized crime" cux. THEY are working hard. and THEY seem to have more intelligence than we* do. and i do not mean to offend anyone who is reading this. just in case."you" are in the underground. i myself found brand new bicycles by the dumpster. and i sold them. on the record and off the record. and i consulted the police on and off .

just in richmond. they have a warehouse full of bicycles. found. with no one to claim back. and i have seen rcmp bidding that on ebay starting with $5.00. you might think: a bike is nothing. you are so rich. for me. the law is the law. if you dont look after your own stuff. no one else will do it for you. (when it gets dark and your property is out on the street overnight. please understand that is no longer your territory)
and if you are the thief who stole that bike and left that behind by the dumpster. thank you very much. (thats probably all i am gonna say. whether i am into stealing your bicycle or not. i prefer not to discuss that any further. there are things. you are supposed to know by yourself. and not to ask someone else. cux. sometimes. you do not know who you are talking to)
thanks, but the ebay account is from toronto police and offer local pick-up only. i knew that vancouver police has two auctions/yr, but it is great if they are selling the unclaim stuffs online too.
bikeregistry is good, but i heard rcmp has a site for register all the personal items, but seems like it is closed down already.
