From my very vague memory, i remember as a kid when i travel back to hk with my mom, she'd tell me to go to this office in the airport and register serial # of items such as phones, cameras, and laptops...
last year when i went to the airport and did that, the person at the office told me that i dont need to cuz they aren't worth a lot?? do we still do that nowadays?? and also i'll be flying at 2am, is that office still open??
never need the receipts.
i even wrote down my dad watch, that is like reallly old. also, i wrote down the cellphone that i got from hk from previous trip. they don't care or check the item on the list.
one custom told me, that green card will never expire.
ex. if you wrote your camera and laptop on the green card last yr. this trip you are bring the laptop only, you can still show the old card to the custom, no need to write a new card again.
2 or 3 months ago I was flying at 6am and the door was locked and there was like nobody there. There was another guy wanting to get into the office but he said theres nobody so he just left. I just left as well and didnt register my stuff, but nobody asked anyway when I returned.
It depends on who you speak to. Some officers would ask you questions like where you bought the item from and if you have receipt, but some would just sign the card without checking the items at all.
One time when I tried to register they asked me for reciepts of those items otherwise they won't do it. I was like....who in the world would bring/keep their receipts to the airport???!?!?! Stupid c ...

You don't really need receipt by LAW .. ( check their website )
However, those custom are B.S... they don't even know the rule .. but .. what can we do??
