would you take a permanent goverment job or would you take a goverment 2 yr contract but better job?
better as in more enjoyable, better experience, tiny bit higher pay (< 2k)
i had a permanent job too...
the union deleted positions with budget cuts..
if u r a senior, u bump the less senior ppl off their positions.. so people keeps bumping one another until the newbie is gone..
in my case, higher pay is the contract job, not much difference, about 2k per year more,
in terms of relax/pressure, i would say contract is more relax, but to be honest both job aren't that much pressure,
not too worry about budget cuts, once i accept the permanent job, it is PERMANENT, budget cuts won't affect me, thats the only thing i like about the permanent job anyway, it is a call centre job, while with the contract one, i am an adjudicator, so experience/skill wise, the adjudicator contract position would better prepare me for the future lor
New LYK is not user friendly and is annoying. Now you can blow me.
I would suggest in this case, take the 2 yr contract job and then work hard to upgrade yourself to a position that you can get a decent job that provide all the satisfactions you need.
i had a government job that i dind't really like, good hours, nice people, fairly good pay... but really boring.. but i thought it was a stable job b/c people that work there are there for years and years and years.. there was one lady that has been in the same position/seat for 13 years...
then next thing u know.. budget cuts ! and i was the newbie.. so i would be the first one to go!! i guess sometimes things are not as stable as it seems...
