VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The poppy campaign is underway again this year, ahead of Remembrance Day.

Joanne Henderson with BC's Royal Canadian Legion tells us November 11th isn't just a day to pay respect to the World War veterans, but also to the soldiers just returning from Afghanistan. "For someone that has served, was there on the battlefield... and gave us those rights and freedoms, that war carries on in their mind every day of their life."

She explains, "When they come home, they just don't forget about what's happened. They just don't forget about everything they've been through, and all the things they've managed to provide for the Afghan people over there."

Henderson believes the poppy has become a symbol of respect in Canadian culture over the years.
