Report: Students avoid colleges they think are "too asian"
Students say it's not about racism

Be the first to Comment  0 Recommendation(s) VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It's getting harder to make the grade at many Canadian universities and some students think they know why. A new report in Macleans magazine suggests some campuses have become "too asian."

Some students tell Macleans it's not about racism, but about the fact that many white undergrads are simply unwilling to sacrifice their time, freedom, and "full university experience" to compete academically with asian students; both those born in Canada and those who have come here from somewhere else.

We spoke with an asian student attending UBC, who admits he and his peers feel resentment. But he adds he has worked hard for his marks and his seat at the university, and feels it's simply unfair to be categorized by race.

若真的這樣﹐入內陸讀喇﹐包他們無法見多少亞洲人

I agree with you. The Asian way is definately missing out big time.

Nothing to do with the fact that University entrance is about merit and shall be about merit alone. Whether you party or not, it's personal choice.

Obviously partying and getting laid is the better way to go

Asians party a lot too, just different way to party, and Caucasians didn't know.

Caucasians like to party, relax and casual on campus, like drink beer between class is acceptable in their culture, sleeping in class is common.  They like to have their "freedom" even during class.

Asians is more serious during class because our culture is to respect teachers and school.  But Asians can go clubbing twice a week, then shopping, then dinning out, and mix girls.   Just that the Caucasians didn't see the off-campus life.

Anyways, I miss my school days, so much fun and girls.

Is there a difference between partying on campus and off campus?
As we can see partying is just having fun. It does not have to be on campus.

If you can get good grades as well as party and have fun, good for you! A lot of my friends are like that as well. One guy hardly studies and spends a lot of his time involved in club activities, but he was still getting top grades and scholarships. Another guy, who was regularly getting marks in the low 90's in all his courses, explicitly told me that shooting for 95%+ is not difficult to do, but he sees no point to it because it would just eat up too much time, and he'd rather go play instead.

And then there is me. Sinking all my time into books and studies, and still only barely squeaking by... Should totally have spent more time playing and mixing girls instead la~

I totally disagree with you that Asian students only study without any partying. From what I can see, Asian students also go partying, shopping, eating etc.

You can have your fun, but other people have their own ways of doing things.
It is the western countries that are crumbling and going bankrupt.

I totally disagree with you that Asian students only study without any partying. From what I can see, Asian students also go partying, shopping, eating etc.
