1 HOPE (NEWS1130) - It isn't clear when the Trans-Canada Highway just north of Hope will be re-opened after a semi-truck crossed a guard rail on the Emory Creek Bridge and plunged into the creek below, killing the driver.
It's the second fatality on the same bridge in less than a week.
Police believe speed and road conditions may have been a factor. The stability of the bridge needs to be re-assed before it can re-open. It was snowing in the area at the time of the accident.
The victim is a 43-year-old man from Mission. His name is not being released.
Bad weather has resulted in a Travel Advisory being issued for the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt. Travel is not recommended unless absolutely necessary.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the lead investigator Constable Roddie Cairns at the Fraser Valley Traffic Services Office at 604-702-4039. |
