gas price (Canada vs USA vs Mexico)

本帖最後由 yuusaku 於 2011-4-17 19:14 編輯

assuming 1CDN=1USD, for simple calculation.

1.377 per L = 5.21 per Gallon

Time magazine says that avg in US is 3.82 per Gallon, and they still go down south, Mexico, for their 2.95 per Gallon, roughly 0.7793 per L.

WHY ARE WE PAYING SO MUCH HERE?

I fill up the tank at PR only if I need to pick up a parcel from the post office.
Unless I drive a vehicle that takes 60L+ of octane 91+

When I go down to the States,  I load up on everything.  Milk/egg/household items  (almost 30% cheaper.)

Clothing/shoes are at least 50% cheaper.  I almost never buy clothing myself in Canada.

If you live in Richmond it would be ok to fill up in PR. It's 20km one way (or 40km round trip). So assume about $4 for the gas cost. Actually, PR raise gas price too, it used to be about $0.30 price difference compare to Van, I used to save $10-$15 for filling up 55litres after gas cost.

Of course it's $1.389/L for regular la, C Hing. 91 octane is something like $1.47-something la. You guys have it easy over in Alberta la.

PR would only make sense if you live sufficiently close. My friend with his SUV is easily saving $20+ per tank by buying gas from the States la.

Assuming it takes 5L of gas to go point robert, 5L of gas to go home. And you are going to fill 50L of gas down there. Just for example

($1.389/L - $1.15/L) x 50L - 5L x $1.389/L - 5L x $1.15/L = 倒轉蝕$0.75

I think you can save more $ when the gas is < $0.999/L, vehicle having a big tank, and lower fuel consumption, ...etc.

In my opinion, don't go down just for cheap gas because you will have to count other things like tire/brakes wear, + risks of collision
