Older cars can be kept 15 yrs, a new car I doubt it, as soon as Warranty ran out your maint. could go up. Rice cars are less cha bo. Domestic cars, even within W u still have lots to fix. Cant imagine ...
What makes you think newer cars can't be kept for 15 yrs lei? The newer powertrains are built better than before. However, the electronics are way more complicated than before and that's probably why the repair cost can go up; one sensor can easily cost you 200 bucks and plus diagnostic charge per hour... So if you buy a manufacturer with a good reputation on electronics (i.e. generally not German), you should be fine.

wear a same shirt ..and wear for 15 yr .. can save more money tim .. lol .. ( if not wash it .. save more! )
LOL keep a car for 15 yr ??
Actually, I have kept one car for 15 ...
Funny example ! Actually, it's not fair only compare cost. Safety, enjoyment, comfortable also count. If cost is the only concern, bike may be good choice - healthy, green & save.

BUS PASS is the way to go!
Maybe in other cities/countries but not in Vancouver.
1. Skytrain does not go through some some major part of the metro vancouver such as Richmond/Delta/Vancouver West.
2. The price keeps on going up.
3. Some major buses are always crowded and the driver always refused people to get on.
4. For some connection is not easy to go such as (richmond -> main street/Marine drive) even with the new skytrain build.
