Im Dong-hyun broke his own 72-arrow mark of 696 by three points and was also part of a record in the Team shoot.

Alongside Kim Bubmin and Oh Jin-hyek he helped register a 216-arrow total of 2,087 - smashing the world record by 18 points.

The day's shooting got under way in perfect conditions, with the Korean trio setting the standard from the off.

They took the three top seedings, with world number two Im again leading the way, breaking the world record for the third occasion since the London 2012 test event.

Despite rain affecting the second half of the ranking shoot, Im still finished with a superb 699.

Kim was just one point behind with 698 and Oh closed with 690.

The top five was rounded out by Great Britain's Larry Godfrey, who recorded a personal best of 680, and Japan's Takaharu Furukawa one point further back.

World number one Brady Ellison of Team USA came 10th with a total of 676 and Ukraine's reigning Olympic champion Viktor Ruban was down in 43rd with 660.

KOREA'S 'BLIND' ARCHERIm Dong-hyun
He has 20/100 vision in his right eye and 20/200 in his left eye, meaning he is legally blind in his left eye and needs to be 10 times closer to see objects clearly compared to someone with perfect vision. "With my vision, when I look at the target, it looks as if different colour paints have been dropped in water. The boundaries are not that clear and the lines between the colours are very blurred," he says. Despite his poor eyesight, he refuses to wear glasses or contact lenses and relies on 'feel' and being able to see the bright colours of the target. He has also refused offers of free eye surgery to improve his vision. "I've practised using glasses before but actually it makes me feel less comfortable when I shoot. When I look down the range at the target all I can do is try to distinguish between the different colours. If I couldn't see the colours, now that would be a problem." According to the BBC he is known as 'Korea's Blind Archer'.

So proud of him! it's not easy to be 20/200 and still achieve so high on a sport that we think requires good vision.
