Most of you might aware of this news.

For those who live in Burnaby, please sign the petition letter by March 9, 2009.

Please gather our signature, so we express a strong opposition to the government that WE DO NOT WANT A JAIL in our neighbourhood.

Of course your concern is valid.
However, people in Vancouver would oppose setting up a jail in their area, Burnaby people would oppose it in their area, Richmond people also would oppose it in their area, same as Delta people, Langley people, West Van people and North Van people, even Island people..... . So, I asked, where should be the best or possible location then?? Mars or Jupiter?

May be it's time to rethink.
Is it applicable to have a little of everything in each community?
Low cost housing in Flase creep.
Rebab Center in Dunbar.
Prison in Burnaby.
You know in HK Stanley has the biggest prison of HK.
Another bridge to N Van is for the ease of communication to and from downtown core or is it another convinent way for people to go to N Van to disturb their lifihood.
All so controversial.

They are going to put by BCIT, and right next to BCIT there is a high school and church around.  Typical quiet residential area.


Why put a jail ...

May be it's another way to teach our children.
You break the law, you are in jail.

Well anyways la, if you guys support the proposal.  It's ok and don't need to sign the petition letter.

I  post this up for people who live in the area and want to oppose it.

I just found out my silly brother doesn't even know about it, so I assume there might be more people are not aware of this news.  

So I just post this up, so people in the area is aware of this news lor.

I think they are not planning to just a jail facility.
I think it's more a remand facility.

They claim people will only stay there for 48 hours and will be release.
Imagine these people who might committed horrible crime and they will be release in 48 hours and walk around your neighbourhood.


It's easy for you guys to say.  It's just a jail ji mah because you don't live in that area and don't have little ones with you.

Of course mental facility is different than jail la.  People who is in mental facility they stay there because of illness where jail/remand facility hold people who might committed murder or serial killer.  Do you want a serial killer release from the remand facility and possibly walk around your neighboorhood?

the treatment and the food you hv in the jail in canada is better than a average income family..why u will want to escape from the prison???...besides i thought there is already some sort of junvenile facility next to bcit, isnt it?

Not even that.  What if the 犯逃 are "bin tai"? and there are many kids around that area?
I feel bad for my manager as she live so close to Morscop high school and she has two little one...

What could be worse, a jail or a mental illness hospital? (not discriminating any of them, just a general comparison).
Firstly, I think it's very rare to have 犯逃 happens. Secondly, even so, I think the most important thing for them to do is to run away as far as they can, instead of admitting a new crime right away in the neighborhood.
Moreover, I can't imagine how noisy would a jail be. I think montessori/kindergarten and primary school are even nosier.

how often would you hear an inmate successfully run away…. @.@ i mean maybe the jail can scare the kids straight

it’s understandable why people don’t like a jail being located in their own neighborhood (ie. Fear, house price dropping etc etc), but let’s be realistic…
