I put in the window xp cd rom....
should the system boot from cd rom automatically when I start the computer?
....
Tried a lot of keys but doesn't seem to get me to BIOS.. or gives me the option to boot from cd rom..
I have similar problem before. I think your best bet is to find someone who knows computer to help. Since your computer has been infected with virus. You may need to "flush your BIOS" to reset your system. ( I am not kidding, the virus that hit mine corrupted the settings data in my BIOS.) That means you need to know the motherboard's made, model number and revision number and................

7 years is still ok...that put you to the late pentium 3/early pentium 4 and the 1st/2nd gen athlon series....given that the computer is clean (lack of junks and useless softwares) it should still have adequate performance for everyday tasks
a cheap dvd writer costs about 25-35 dollars
